BMW car drags Activa for 50 metres, 2 delivery boys hurt

Zirakpur, April 28

A rashly driven BMW car hit Activa-borne youths near the K-area traffic lights last night, leaving them seriously injured.

The victims, Honey (18) and Ankit (20), both residents of Panchkula district, work as delivery boys.

Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred around 2.25 am when the victims were going towards the Chandigarh side from Panchkula to deliver an item. When they reached near the K-area traffic lights, a BWM car, bearing a Punjab registration number, which was also heading in the same direction, hit their Activa scooter from the rear side.

Honey and Ankit fell off the scooter and sustained injuries. However, their Activa got stuck under the BMW car.

An eyewitness, who described the accident as “horrific”, said after the Activa got stuck under the car, its driver, in order to flee, kept dragging it for at least 50 metres before coming to a halt. The driver tried to restart the car after the accident, but failed to do so. He then fled from the spot, leaving the car behind.

Passersby shifted the injured to the GMCH, Sector 32, Chandigarh, where they are under treatment.

Dalbir Singh, SHO, Dhakoli, said the BMW was being driven by Karan, a resident of Dhakoli. However, they were not sure if there was anyone else in the car. The police have registered a case at the Dhakoli police station and have impounded the car.
